Organic waste additives boost nutrient-rich vermicompost production for sustainable agriculture.
The study tested if different types of earthworms and organic waste additives affect vermicomposting. Two earthworm species were used: Eisenia fetida and Aporrectodea caliginosa. Adding organic waste like rice straw and kitchen waste increased nutrients in the vermicompost. The vermicompost made by Eisenia fetida was of higher quality than that made by Aporrectodea caliginosa. Overall, using organic additives improved the final vermicompost product.
