Optimizing climate policies could boost global welfare, new study finds.
This paper looks at different ways to reduce carbon emissions and their effects on the environment and economy. The researchers studied four scenarios: one where things continue as they are, one that aims to meet the Paris Agreement's temperature goal, and two that focus on finding the best balance between the costs of cutting emissions and dealing with climate change impacts. They found that faster development of clean technologies after 2050 could help us reach our climate targets more effectively and at a lower cost. By considering both the expenses of reducing emissions and the costs of climate change damage, we can come up with more practical global climate policies.
