Revolutionary irrigation practices slash soil salinity in Weigan Oasis
Soil salinity in the Weigan Oasis has decreased significantly over the past 60 years, mainly due to changes in land use and irrigation practices. The study found that the soil salt content varies across the region and is influenced by factors like groundwater depth and salinity. By analyzing water and salt balance, researchers determined a critical ratio of drainage to irrigation (CRDI) of 8.20% to guide sustainable agricultural development in the oasis. This research provides valuable insights for managing soil salinization and water resources in long-term irrigation-dominated areas.
