Freshwater Bansagar pond in India teeming with diverse fish species!
The researchers analyzed fish diversity in a freshwater pond in India from Jan. 2020 to Dec. 2020. They found a total of 172 fish belonging to 10 different families. The family Cyprinidae had the most species, making up 61.63% of the fish population. Channidae and Bagridae were the next most abundant families. Overall, the pond had a species richness of 18, with a Shannon Wieners Index of 1.02 and a Simpson’s Diversity Index of 0.91.
