Legume-cereal rotation boosts soil health and crop yields significantly.
A study was done on soil under maize crops to see how different legumes and residue management affect soil properties. They found that using legumes and their residues increased soil microbes, especially cowpea which had the highest nitrogen levels and bacterial count. Adding more nitrogen also increased available nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the soil. Overall, planting legumes and managing residues can improve soil health and nutrient levels for better crop growth.
