Indonesia faces hazardous waste crisis with over 1 billion tons projected by 2040.
The researchers studied hazardous waste from industries in Indonesia in 2019 and predicted future waste generation in 2040. They found that in 2019, 573,351,835.37 tonnes of hazardous waste were produced, and by 2040, it could reach 1,066,603,307.02 to 1,298,591,111.95 tonnes. Most of the waste is not properly managed, with only 1.24% being processed. This poses risks to the environment and human health. A better waste management system is needed to reduce these negative impacts.
