EU ETS fails to reduce aviation emissions, leading to increased jet fuel consumption.
The EU tried to reduce emissions from air travel by including flights in their Emission Trading System. They wanted to see if this system actually worked. The results showed that, on average, the EU ETS led to a 10% increase in jet fuel consumption. However, the data had some issues, so it's not clear if the EU ETS caused this increase. This study sets the stage for more research on how carbon pricing affects aviation in Europe.
