Inbred Maize Lines Show Promising Traits for High Grain Yields.
Researchers crossed five different types of maize plants to see how their genes combine and affect traits like grain yield. They found that the way genes interact in these crosses is mainly non-additive, meaning the traits are not just a simple sum of the parents' traits. One of the maize lines, inbred line 4, was particularly good for grain yield traits in the hybrids. Another line, inbred line 5, showed promising effects for multiple traits. Some specific crosses, like 2x4 and 1x4, had the best results for grain yield.
