Food packaging plays a crucial role in protecting food, providing information, and extending shelf life. Active packaging, like controlled-release antioxidant and antimicrobial packaging, helps maintain food quality and safety. Advances in packaging technology have led to smart packaging with features like time-temperature indicators and gas indicators. Testing methods and mechanisms for active compounds release are also discussed in the review.
