Paper Summary

Air source heat pump water heaters are efficient for heating water. The study compared the efficiency of an air to water heat pump (AWHP) and an air source heat pump (ASHP) unit. They found that the ASHP unit had a higher coefficient of performance (COP) than the AWHP. The difference in COP was due to the energy consumed by the fan and water circulation pump in the AWHP. This research suggests ways to improve the efficiency of ASHP water heaters.
