Sembayat Weir construction accelerates sediment transport in Bengawan Solo River.
The study looked at how the construction of Sembayat Weir affected sediment transport in the Bengawan Solo River estuary in Indonesia. By comparing data before and after the weir was built, researchers found that sediment transport rates increased due to erosion in river branches. Sediment concentrations decreased at certain observation sites after the weir was constructed, especially during the rainy season. However, in river branches, sediment transport rates were higher in the dry season because of tidal currents. Overall, the findings show that the weir influenced sediment transport rates differently depending on the season and location in the estuary.
