Female tea workers' empowerment falls short despite paid employment opportunities.
The study looked at how women tea plantation workers in Sylhet are empowered through their jobs. Women are preferred for tea leaf harvesting because they are skilled and cheaper. The study found that most women have control over their income but struggle to save due to low pay. They also have a say in decisions about their children's education and family planning. However, they still face challenges in fully achieving their rights and controlling their situations. This shows that women's employment alone does not guarantee their empowerment, and other social factors need to be considered.
