Revolutionizing Global Health: Biofortified Foods Combat Micronutrient Deficiencies
Increasing the amount of essential nutrients in diets worldwide is crucial for improving global health. Different methods like biofortification through biotechnology, conventional breeding, and agronomic approaches can achieve this. Among these, conventional breeding and agronomic approaches are widely accepted globally and should be the main focus of research. This review summarizes the current state of biofortified foods achieved through conventional breeding and agronomic methods for crops. It discusses the benefits and limitations of these approaches, highlighting areas where further research is needed to enhance their effectiveness in combating nutrient deficiencies.
