Tidal Resonance in Estuaries Threatens Flood Protection and Ecosystems
Tidal waves in the Elbe estuary are getting stronger, affecting construction, navigation, flood protection, and ecosystems. Researchers used data from 25 gauges to study tidal behavior over 18 years. They found different tidal patterns and standing waves, with some areas amplifying tides more than others. The estuary does not show full resonance with tidal frequencies, but there are hints of increasing resonance in certain areas.
