New model predicts algae growth in reservoirs, improving ecosystem health.
The study developed a model to understand and predict the ecosystem of Hoedong Reservoir in South Korea. The model focused on five variables including phytoplankton, zooplankton, fish, and phosphorus levels. By comparing different ways to describe algal growth, the researchers found that a two-step description was more accurate in predicting chlorophyll-a and phosphorus concentrations in the reservoir.
