New method smooths out rough curves in data for accurate predictions
A method called Generalized Cross-Validation (GCV) is used in a study on smoothing spline nonparametric regression models. These models are used when the shape of a regression curve is unknown. By adjusting smoothing parameters, rough curves can be smoothed out. The study found that using the GCV method resulted in the best smoothing parameters, even when the number and position of the knots varied.
