New Bitter Gourd Cultivars Boost Yield and Quality for Farmers
A study was conducted on fifteen types of bitter gourd to find out which traits could be improved to increase yield. The experiment took place in 2018 at a research field in India. They looked at things like the number of branches per plant, days to first flower, and fruit yield. The results showed that there was more variation in traits due to the environment than genetics. The best traits for improving yield were the number of branches and fruit yield per plant. The researchers found that fruit yield had the highest heritability, meaning it is mostly influenced by genetics. The number of days to first picking also showed potential for improvement. Overall, the study identified key traits that could be targeted for enhancing bitter gourd production.
