The researchers studied the water quality in Hengshui Lake over time and identified pollution sources. They looked at data from 2000 onwards and sampled 17 sites in 2019. The main water quality indicators were permanganate index, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus. Water quality generally improved from 2000 to 2019 due to protective measures, but challenges remain from side seepage, sewage discharge, and agricultural pollutants.
