Sugarcane Waste Transformed into Valuable Lignin Fuel Alternative
Sugarcane bagasse, a leftover from making ethanol, contains lignin that can be useful. Scientists extracted lignin from sugarcane bagasse using two methods: Klason lignin and milled wood lignin. The lignin obtained had a syringil/guaiacyl ratio of 1.67. Klason lignin was found to be more resistant to heat than milled wood lignin. Analysis showed that Klason lignin had more structural changes and was more oxidized than milled wood lignin. This research helps us understand how different extraction methods affect the properties of lignin, which can be used to make valuable products in the future.
