Water-Saving Measures Vital for Northern China's Soil and Water Conservation
Soil conservation measures in Northern China can help save water. A study looked at data from 22 plots near Beijing and found that soil loss increased with slope steepness and length. Rainfall also affected runoff and soil loss. Bare soil had the highest soil loss rate, followed by cultivated lands without measures. Contour tillage didn't work well on steep slopes, but vegetation and terracing reduced runoff and soil loss significantly. Water-saving measures like vegetation coverage and terracing should be used in the region to protect soil and water resources.
