Consumers Unaware of Water Prices: Utilities Urged to Simplify Pricing Structures
The study looked at water pricing in 92 Minnesota cities and found that neither the price per unit nor the average price is the best predictor of water demand. The analysis showed that consumers are not very sensitive to changes in water prices. The study suggests that utilities should simplify their pricing structures and make the cost of water more understandable to consumers, like showing the cost of watering a lawn for six hours.
