Saline water limits rice production, threatening food security in coastal areas.
Irrigating rice fields with salty water can reduce rice production. This study aimed to find the maximum salt level that rice can tolerate for good yields. They tested different salt levels on rice plants at different growth stages. High salt levels decreased plant height, tiller number, and delayed heading. The critical salt level for good growth was below 0.08% at the early stage and 0.05% at the mid-stage. At the late stage, 0.05% salt level gave the lowest yield compared to lower salt levels. High salt levels drastically reduced the number of panicles and spikelets, affecting rice yield.
