Researchers compared three models to estimate how much water a certain type of tree in a dry area uses during the growing season. They found that one model always overestimated the water use, another model was more accurate but complicated, and a new model gave the most accurate results, especially on an hourly basis. The new model is best for studying sparse vegetation in very dry regions.
