Wheat crops under ozone threat: photosynthesis decline may impact food supply
Ozone can harm plants, affecting their growth and yield. This study looked at how two types of wheat respond to high ozone levels using a special field setup. Both wheat types had lower photosynthesis rates, but one was more affected than the other. The sensitive wheat had bigger decreases in photosynthesis, while the other had higher transpiration and less reduction in a key enzyme. The sensitive wheat showed more damage to its photosynthetic system under high ozone levels.
