Llama Semen Cryopreservation Breakthrough Promises Improved Breeding for South American Farmers
Researchers aimed to improve llama semen freezing by testing different cryoprotectants. They used glycerol, dimethylformamide, or a mix of both. Results showed no significant difference between using one or both cryoprotectants on sperm quality. While sperm motility decreased after thawing, sperm DNA quality was preserved. In conclusion, using a combination of cryoprotectants did not offer an advantage over using a single one for freezing llama semen.
