Trade reforms boost global agriculture, lifting millions out of poverty.
Farming in many developing countries has been hurt by unfair policies and subsidies favoring richer countries. This has harmed global economic welfare and hindered agricultural trade and growth. However, in recent years, some developing countries have improved their trade policies, and high-income countries are also making changes. Removing these interventions could greatly benefit the global economy. If the WTO's Doha Round of trade negotiations fails, protectionism in emerging economies could increase, leading to potential negative consequences.
