Biochar production at 450°C enhances soil water retention capacity
Adding biochar to soil can change its physical properties, depending on the type of biochar and how it's made. In this study, researchers looked at biochars made from rice straw and canola stalks at different temperatures. They found that biochars made at around 450°C had the best pore characteristics, which can affect soil porosity and water retention. Rice straw biochar increased soil porosity, while canola stalk biochar decreased it. The size of pores in biochar is important for how it affects soil when added. Overall, biochars made at 450°C had the best pore properties for improving soil quality.
