Weed-free chickpea fields lead to higher yields and healthier crops!
The researchers conducted a field experiment to find the best ways to control weeds in chickpea crops in Punjab. They tested different weed management practices and found that keeping the field weed-free resulted in the lowest weed population and weight. This led to taller plants, more branches, and higher yields of pods and seeds. Hand weeding at specific times and using a herbicide also showed good results in controlling weeds and improving crop growth and yield.
