Indonesia started decentralizing its government in 1999, moving power from a central authority to local governments. The article looks at how well Indonesia has done with this decentralization. It shows that Indonesia has succeeded in some areas but not in others. The future challenges for Indonesia in continuing this process are also discussed, along with suggestions for improvement.
