Optimal Saline Water Irrigation Schedule Boosts Crop Yields and Profits.
Researchers developed an optimal irrigation schedule to maximize profits per area by using a model that considers crop sensitivity to water and salinity. They conducted experiments to gather data and simulated different irrigation scenarios for wheat and cotton crops. The model accurately predicted soil salinity levels and crop yields. They suggested using fresh water for irrigation if groundwater salinity is above 7.0 g L-1, a mix of fresh and saline water if around 5.0 g L-1, and solely saline water if below 3.0 g L-1.
