New Rice Varieties Boost Yields and Nitrogen Efficiency in Hilly Lands.
A study compared two types of rice grown in hilly areas of Hubei Province with different levels of nitrogen fertilizer. The results showed that adding nitrogen increased rice yield by 45.6% to 53.5%. The most suitable amount of nitrogen for each type of rice was found to be around 221-235 kg per hectare. The nitrogen uptake by the rice plants also increased significantly with nitrogen application. One of the rice varieties, Huaidao 5, showed higher yield and nitrogen use efficiency in this environment.
