Study reveals urgent need for soil conservation in China's key areas
Soil erosion is a big problem in China's National Key Ecological Function Areas. By using a special tool called Arc GIS, researchers studied 25 of these areas in 2010. They found that areas with more vegetation and soil conservation efforts had less erosion. Some areas had more erosion, but overall, soil conservation measures helped. The southern areas had the most soil conservation. The amount of soil nutrients saved was highest in certain grassland areas. To protect the soil and nutrients, it's important to take care of the vegetation and use good soil conservation methods in areas with high erosion.
