Landslides in the Three Gorges Reservoir area deform significantly when the water level drops each year. By studying the Baishuihe landslide, researchers found that slow groundwater drainage during water level decline increases seepage force, reducing slope stability. The faster the water level drops, the faster the landslide deforms, showing a step-like pattern.
