Punitive damages in lawsuits can cause uncertainty and settlements. This study looked at thousands of court cases in Georgia to see if asking for punitive damages affects how cases progress. They checked many factors like case type and limits on payments. Surprisingly, the researchers found that requesting punitive damages didn't significantly alter how these cases moved forward in court.
