Decreasing planting density boosts rice yield and lodging resistance significantly.
The researchers studied how different planting densities of rice seedlings affect yield, plant characteristics, and resistance to lodging. They tested three planting densities and compared them to traditional planting methods. The results showed that decreasing planting density led to increased yield in large panicle rice, but decreased yield in medium and small panicle rice. Lower planting density also increased certain plant traits like panicle length and leaf size. Additionally, the strength of the rice plants against bending and breaking increased with lower planting density, while the risk of lodging decreased.
