The coalbed methane reservoir in south Qinshui basin has high gas saturation due to overpressure in the past. The gas content was oversaturated and hard to explain theoretically. Overpressure from gas generation in coal rocks caused the high saturation, which decreased as the reservoir uplifted, leading to the present gas content.
