New pea genotype promises higher yields and disease resistance in Ethiopia's highlands.
A study was done in the highlands of Bale, Southeastern Ethiopia to find the best field pea genotypes for high yield and disease resistance. Sixteen genotypes were tested over three years at three locations. The results showed that the environment had the biggest impact on grain yield, followed by the genotype and their interaction. Genotype G8 (EH08003-2) had the highest yield of 4.03t/ha, 18% more than the other genotypes tested. It was also stable across different environments, making it a promising candidate for release in the highlands of Bale.
