An integrated land use model was used to study how different farming practices affect biodiversity in an Austrian landscape. By analyzing factors like nitrogen use and landscape features, the model showed that without environmental measures, biodiversity decreases and natural areas like orchard meadows are lost. These measures may reduce farm profits, but are important for maintaining a diverse ecosystem. More research is needed to fully understand the impact of farming on biodiversity.
