White-rot fungus produces powerful enzyme for industrial applications with ease.
The white-rot fungus Trametes pubescens MB 89 was found to produce laccase, an important enzyme, especially when copper was added to the culture medium. Laccase activity increased over time, reaching a maximum on the 19th day of cultivation. The laccase was purified using DEAE-Sepharose, resulting in a purity of over 53%. This study suggests that Trametes pubescens MB 89 could be a valuable source of laccase for industrial use, and that copper plays a role in laccase formation.
