Groundwater over-extraction threatens Platte River water levels, study finds.
The simulation showed that taking too much groundwater near the Platte River can harm the river over time. The study used a computer model to see how water moves between the river and the ground. It found that if we keep pumping too much groundwater, the river will lose more water each year. Different parts of the river give or take water from the ground in different ways. In the west, the river loses water to the ground, while in the east, it gains water from the ground.
