Phosphorus distribution and release in Lake Dianchi sediment were studied. Organic P was highest, followed by Ca-P and Al-P. Total phosphorus in water exceeded safe levels. Phosphate release from sediment to water happened quickly. Different forms of phosphorus affected release potential. Sediment phosphorus risk assessment should consider various forms, not just basic properties.
