Super hybrid rice boosts yield with enhanced dry matter production
The study analyzed the dry matter production of super hybrid rice compared to a regular hybrid rice. Super hybrid rice showed higher dry matter production and yield, especially during the middle and late growth stages. The grain yield of super hybrid rice was closely related to dry matter accumulation after the elongation stage. Despite having more dry matter in vegetative organs at the heading stage, super hybrid rice had a slightly lower conversion percentage to yield compared to the regular hybrid rice. The high yield of super hybrid rice mainly comes from increased photosynthesis after heading, leading to higher crop growth rate at later stages. Leaf area duration was found to be a better indicator of dry matter production advantage in super hybrid rice than leaf area index.
