New model improves snowmelt simulation accuracy in hydrologic models.
The researchers improved a hydrologic model to better simulate snowmelt in cold regions. They combined two models to enhance snowmelt calculations in the original model. By doing this, they were able to more accurately estimate streamflow and snowmelt runoff in mountainous areas with abundant snowfall. The new approach increased the accuracy of streamflow estimates by 0.11, showing that the improved model can better represent the effects of snowmelt in these regions.
