Social Security benefits still favor high-earning households over low-earning ones.
The Social Security system redistributes benefits from high earners to low earners, but it's less effective at redistributing between households. A study compared two groups born 12 years apart to see if changes in women's work patterns affected this. Women now work more and earn more, leading to increased redistribution of benefits among households. However, there's still a big gap between men and women's earnings, so the system still struggles to redistribute benefits between high and low earning households.
