Observed dryland expansion four times higher than climate simulations predicted!
Drylands have expanded by 2.61 million square kilometers from 1948 to 2005, much more than predicted by climate models. This expansion is due to less rain and more evaporation. The models overestimate rainfall in dry areas, especially in Africa, East Asia, and Australia.
