New Study Reveals Soil Moisture Patterns Impacting Desert Ecosystems
Researchers studied soil moisture in the Gurbantunggut Desert by analyzing sandy dunes. They found that soil moisture varies based on different periods and locations within the dunes. The north slope has higher moisture than the sunny slope. The lower areas between dunes have high moisture, while the dune tops have low moisture. Soil layers were divided into active, transitional, and stable layers, with significant differences between them. Rainfall and temperature strongly influence soil moisture distribution.
