Optimizing Rice Planting Density Boosts Yield and Efficiency in Southern China.
The researchers studied how different planting densities of rice affect yield and photosynthesis. They tested various types of rice with different spacing between plants. They found that reducing planting density led to more productive tillers and better chlorophyll content in the leaves. Low density planting resulted in the highest dry matter weight and net assimilation rate. For conventional japonica rice, closer spacing led to higher yields, while for hybrid rice, wider spacing was better for spike-forming tillers and panicle development. In conclusion, planting density affects rice yield and photosynthesis, with different types of rice responding differently to spacing.
