Immigrants can boost the local economy by creating more jobs for native workers and increasing wages in certain sectors. A study using US Census data from 1980 to 2000 found that each immigrant can generate 1.2 jobs for local workers, with most going to native-born workers. These jobs are mainly in non-traded services, and immigrants also attract workers from other parts of the country.
