Survey Reports of Earnings and Work Hours Show Significant Measurement Errors.
The article examines errors in surveys about people's earnings and work hours. Two studies were done using data from a large company and Social Security records. The studies found that people generally report their earnings accurately, but errors are linked to how much they actually earn. This can affect results when earnings are used as a factor in a study. Hourly earnings were less reliable than yearly earnings. People tend to under-report how long they were unemployed.
