Varicocele surgery boosts sperm quality, enhancing male fertility prospects
Surgical repair of varicocele can improve sperm quality and morphology in men with infertility. Researchers studied 121 males who had varicocele surgery and found that after the procedure, there was a significant decrease in abnormalities in sperm shape. Additionally, sperm concentration, as well as motility (ability to move), improved post-surgery. The degree of varicocele seen on ultrasound before the operation was a key factor in predicting how much sperm concentration would improve afterward. These findings suggest that identifying and correcting varicoceles could lead to better sperm quality for men trying to conceive, indicating a potential benefit for using this method in clinical settings.
